While electronic cigarettes and vaporizers have become incredibly popular in just the last few years, the short and long-term health impact that this new technology has is still not completely understood – though we do now know that e-juice and pets just don’t mix.

Nicotine has always posed a real threat to the health of our animals and furry little family members, and even though electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, and e-juice options do not have nearly as much nicotine as traditional cigarettes might, they still are going to pose at least a bit of a health risk to your pets – and you need to be aware of this before moving forward.

Why is e-juice so dangerous for pets?

As we highlighted above, nicotine poisoning is incredibly devastating to the physiology of our dogs and our cats – and it only takes between 15 and 60 minutes after ingestion for our animals to start showing signs of the damage. Most dogs and cats are going to start vomiting, have diary, become immediately agitated and aggressive, suffer from elevated heart rates and breathing rates, and some might even start to have a seizure or tremors because of the nicotine.

In more extreme circumstances – like if a pet has eaten an entire e-juice capsule, for example – it is possible for cyanosis, coma, and cardiac arrest to occur in our for a little family members, a situation that you are going to want to do your level best to avoid at all costs.

What can we do if our pet has been exposed to e-juice?

For starters, you really want to limit the amount of e-juice vaporization that your pets are exposed to on a regular basis. If you want to enjoy everything that e-juice has to offer, by all means enjoy and indulge, but don’t subject to your animals to the same kind of activity just because they are around.

Secondly, if you have noticed your pet to have ingested e-juice you’re going to want to contact your vet ASAP and rush them to an animal clinic, animal emergency room, or to your that just as quickly as humanly possible. Home care is almost never an option when it comes to nicotine exposure or poisoning even in the smallest dosages, and you just can’t afford not to get your animal help when they need it most if you have gone down this path.

Be sure that you are as safe as possible when you indulge in electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, and e-juice going forward to prevent your pets from having to suffer from even the smallest human mistake.
